I Have to concur with you at some level. This is not exactly news tbh. Seems like a carefully seeded story.
This and all the other stories of how he used to travel far distances to teach students etc.....seems wayyy too carefully curated. Quite a barrage out here from their PR team.
Oh.. yeah.. founder cried PR... this nonsense still works?.. next would be articles about how he spent late hours teaching poor kids.. feeding the homeless.. lol.. why is this company still open?
Ask the Board, because only a buyout will save them now.

Aware of the poonia issue. Not hoping, expecting due to bad governance. No company can meteorically rise like that without constant money flowing in. They acquired a bunch of firms and now have the sticky factor, they are no longer a buy a tablet with tutorials.
In all likelihood, they will get more money pumped in and there will be a leadership change or scavengers will come and pick it apart for their other divisions.
He is crying because he may get implicated in some fraud. A few weeks ago a TN politician was crying and faking a heart attack when being arrested before the media.
He would have enough money set aside and is an intelligent business man. He won't cry if businesses are failing.

I don't think so. He would have cried long before then. Byju himself is earning notoriety by not filing statements on time - could have declared losses , legacy would have been intact. He has has his head stuck in something very very illegal.
It's not possible that all the jugglery thier sales team did and played fast and loose with parents emotions & money, this guy was not aware of what was happening.
He may have donned multiple hats in recent times, however, a teacher is not one of them. He certainly doesn't have students' best interests at heart.
