Just boils down to this.. I guess
Average talent + Good manager = Promotion Good talent + Bad manager = HR headache Great talent + Insecure manager = Exit Interview Below average talent + Loyalty = Your next VP
If talent succeeds: Leadership takes the credit If it fails: Blame the recruiter If it survives: Celebrate the process If it dies: Write a medium/ Linkedin post on "learnings"
Did I mention: Good/ Great talent, mismanaged, doesn't become average. It becomes angry. Then becomes a rebel. Then decides if to become a Founder/ a Dealer
Also, funny how no one.. calls themselves a below average, average or bad talent willingly.
No wonder Goldman Sachs has 20,000+ VP's

I am average, we(manager and me) all know it I think. Although in all my 1:1 my manager always says he is happy with my performance and I have always been given pretty good hikes so that's confusing.

As they say.. if you can’t guide them.. confuse them
