Jobless and Clueless

It's been over 1.5 years and I haven't landed at least another interview let alone a job. But looking at folks shifting to businesses and side ventures I feel like I need to give up completely on corporate sector and choose a creative venture. I still apply for jobs but I have created a great deal of stress in attending phone calls that I don't pick up any calls apart from known numbers or delivery needs. I want to overcome this phase and it's taking me a lifetime. I'm in a dilemma and not sure of which path to choose. I don't know if I will make it in this lifetime. I just keep going.

Hi @CrispElevator, firstly good job hanging in there bro. It's okay, I will help my best in anyway for you to come out of this situation.

Firstly, u mentioned since 1.5 years, so can u tell a Lil bit about what u did prior like any other job, any previous IT experience, or just a student graduate fresh out of college?

Do answer the above questions,

In the meanwhile, if u r a fresher, u have to build a good portfolio on platforms like GitHub to get job. It's becoming a new trend really, I came to know this from recruiters.

If u had IT experience, take Naukri premium membership, yes u might think oh I will lose around 10-12k, f**k that money man, u will recover in 2-3 days of landing your job. And trust me Naukri premium members have a person assigned who screens your profile, gives u suggestion every three days on additional in resume, tricks, etc.

In case u have other experience not IT, then getting some certification will be best for you, go to Google digital garage, u will find atleast 8-10 free certification there, all worth it, they are on management, analytics, visualization, digital marketing, SeO search eng optimization, etc.

Finally one general suggestion, worked 4 me, start playing some online games like Codm - call of duty mobile , pokemon go, etc. -- this seems silly right? Wrong. This is actually highly beneficial for u, as u will first meet people virtually, they will add you on community like whatsapp groups, discord.

And bro, u won't believe for pokemon go, codm, u will see city wise community in facebook, Insta, people are crazy.

Anyway, the point being, u will meet people, I mean actual people. I came to know 7-10 friends just nearby my locality while playing.

And once u r in a good company, u will understand real troubles they have and then see if ur issue is something so hard that u can't solve or it can be broken down.

U will decide then. 👍

I have my background in clinical research and I have resume gaps due to health reasons preciously and now again a huge gap. I have assessed a bit about it and a great deal is to do with my lack of networking or more so, the fear of networking. Just the idea freaks me out. I'm not really into coding and I'm trying my luck finding a job relevant to my previous experience. At this point, I'm trying to overcome my solitude and speak up to people as much as I can. Thanks a lot for the ideas, I will check them out.

That's the spirit, clinical research is a booming field as well, post Covid, i read many medical expenses increased and R&D of major global hospitals were significantly increased, hence newer opportunities. May I also ask why are u thinking of changing your medical background? Considering u have had some heKth issues, i would have been in that field as there will be colleagues, senior medical practitioners, your employer giving you better health coverage etc.

If you want to start a creative venture, try it out. Maybe that will work, who knows.

Takes time, probably much lesser pay but huge satisfaction. I'm clinging onto it.

Yes do it. Corporate jobs are not the only option.

Happen to know how that feels, people just don't care what you are doing so, do what you can without fear of being judged.

Glad you overcame it.

I think you care too much about what other people think, just pick up that phone call most likely you won't have to talk with that guy again so, talk with full confidence. Don't give up yet

That's right. I need to JUST pick up the damn calls. I'm missing out and then I look behind what I missed out. I need to care less.

You lack in knowledge and skillset. Your technical skills are weak as you couldn't get even a interview. Work on your aptitude and technical knowledge. First you do this so that you can atleast get some interviews. Then for interviews learn communication using jargons, structured approach and examples which you can explain to strengthen your points. You need to reassess yourself and grind

So the thing is I can work on building skillset only when I know which path to choose. I tend to over think and end up in a loop of anxious thoughts. I can definitely work on my aptitude and communication skills, that could help anytime. Thanks for the tough advice.

No one really knows what they want or what field is best for them. But someone who becomes the best in what they do are usually master the field which they choose. So take a deep breath, voice down distractions and pick a field. Review it , do some research spend 1 week 50 hours studying it and then see if it excites you. If the answer is yes then ding ding you got the field. Your lack of execution and reflection is the reason behind your doubt. Your increasing doubt is the reason behind your anxiety and overthinking. For clarity and confidence you need stringent knowledge which you need to work over time
