Job Search Rant. TLDR; Pissed 🤬

I'm getting really bored in India. Current company work is okay, but office politics is slowly killing me. Pay is getting impacted with pocket change increments and blood bath job market with companies wanting Engineers to have 3+YoE but want to pay peanuts like 5-7LPA. I was really not liking how things are for us all. But then yesterday, something really shitty happened. I have been applying to this one company for many years now and I finally got the call yesterday that they like my profile and wanted to initiate the interview process. I was like "Finally, my growth begins". But in the HR screening round, she asked one question "Do you know Angular and web frameworks?", to which I replied "Angular, No. But the position's JD was purely looking for someone with great ReactJS and NextJS ecosystem working knowledge. So, why this question about Angular out of nowhere ?", to which she replied "Well, yes the position is looking for a ReactJS engineer, but I've seen many other similar openings in other places which also included Angular and web frameworks are asked for. So, I think it would be a great addition for someone to be hired for this position." And then she continued saying, "Well, since you only have react and nextjs skills, I don't think you'll be a good fit for the position. So we will not be going ahead." And she ended the call. Bish didn't even give me a chance to talk back. Really pissed about this bish HR. Looked up profile on LinkedIn. She's new to corporate world, and has like 3 months of hiring experience till date (this is her first job). I f***** lost an amazing opportunity at one of my dream companies, all bcz this bish felt that I didn't have extra skillset apart from what the position was looking for ! Skills that were absolutely unnecessary for the position the company was hiring.

Now I just want to search for job opportunities across the globe, not just India. Any idea how one can find opportunities outside India ? How do I even search for one ? I heard that I should find employers who can provide work visa. How can I do that ? 👀

Recruiter: how many YOE do you have? Me: 6.4 Recruiter: excluding internship? Me: then it's 5.10 Recruiter: sorry we're strictly looking for 6+ YOE

Cuts the call abruptly

I think we should ask HR pehle... ki beta tumhe kitna experience hai fir baat krna.. otherwise papa ya mumma ko bhejo hiring ke liye

SqueakyWalrus
SqueakyWalrus

This looks like a common thing smh 👀

Is this what they are teaching the recruiters in their respective educational institutions ? 👀

Indians recruiters are the best. I recently got a call for Product Design and recruiter asked me if I know how to use Invision to which I replied that Invision no longer exists the product is now defunct and her reply was but it is a must to have invision knowledge.

SqueakyWalrus

This is mental 💀 I think recruiters should just assist in the hiring process and not be the decision makers. Let the manager of that team who's being hired for, do the shortlisting and stuff. That would be a far better approach IMO

I just yes to all skills queries by HR and then wait for the actual technical round to see what they actually require.

FloatingRaccoon

Now you know to lie and reply yes to all hr questions. They're nobodies so just have to get through them and onwards to the HM rounds. That's where you can discuss the realities. Let it be a lesson. HR are dogs just don't look them in the eyes and keep moving forward calmly. Let them bark.

SqueakyWalrus
SqueakyWalrus

Yep. Lifetime worth lesson learnt. I'm just gonna nod from now on, so that I don't get stuck at HR screening and make it to technicals.

GoofyCupcake

True. They're just supposed to look at the JD and pretend they know what they're talking about. Just say yes.

What is “bish”? Everyone here keeps using such puzzling acronyms!!

Did you search on the internet ? I would suggest you search on urban dictionary as well.

It's used usually to overcome the censor cut words and content filters applied on platforms like Reddit.

Abusing the HR is the right attitude. You'll go far in life!

Who ? Me ? I'm just describing the behaviour bruh 😂

I've met some great HRs since my engineering days. Quality HRs. They know what they are hiring for. They are clear about what the company needs, and not go with some other profile just bcz they know a gazillion more irrelevant skills.
All industries need such HRs, HRs who hire the right talent for the company.

I just have one thing to say as this is anonymous platform so we should directly call out the company name without any hesitation. what do you say

PeppyNarwhal
PeppyNarwhal

It's anonymous still people are not calling out name, then what's the use of this platform being anonymous

SqueakyWalrus
SqueakyWalrus

Yes it's an anonymous platform and that's why I did not reveal anything about the company or about her.

Since my post has quite a detail, revealing the company name is all it's gonna take, for me to make it to the news headlines 😂

Why do you think it'll be any better outside? Junior employees can and will screw up many things in their work. It's human nature, can't help it.

You can try looking for remote jobs too though, check out remoteindian.com

SqueakyWalrus
SqueakyWalrus

I've worked with a lot of junior devs. Only had 1 or 2 who didn't really fit in. The rest were really good. Some even as good as me and my lead engineer as well 😂!

Searching for jobs outisde might not change anything, but I'm looking for out of comfort zone opportunities. If not now, when ? Will probably get married in a year or two at 30.

This should be going up in linkedin. It could be a loss for both you and the company. Maybe if your post reaches the right person, you will get a proper call back. This is just based on assumptions.

SqueakyWalrus
SqueakyWalrus

Nah. I'm not in a mood to make it to the news headlines at the moment. Yes, I lost this opportunity because of someone else's poor judgement skills. But I don't want to rant on that platform. Unnecessary and mostly useless attraction. Why you ask ? Well, I had posted about another issue sometime back about broken hiring process and the comments sections were filled with "CFBR" and "Interested. DMing you" 💀.

Ya some people are stupids. One hr rejected me when I said I have next js experience. She said they use react and only want people with react js experience. Fuckers dont know next js is a wrapper of react with additional functionalites

SqueakyWalrus
SqueakyWalrus

True. But can't blame them bro. We should strive to explain them that its react, but a more complex and bigger version of it and is hot in market right now. Like in layman terms.

I would have done the same, had she not abruptly ended the call and not answer after I tried calling back right after that.
