Job in India which doesn't make me cold on a VM.

Can you all tell me if your company allows coding on the laptop they give you or you have to connect to a VM using the given laptop? The reason I'm asking is because I absolutely hate the latency that I get while typing and interacting with the IDE or anything in the UI.
