Hey folks !

I recently got selected in a govt job which has in hand salary around 90k and I am currently working in IT having around same salary with 4+ years of experience.

Needed some serious suggestions to decide the path here.

2 important points to consider:

  • are you ok leaving coding and doing the govt work (can be anything from doing paper work, supervising someone to mandatory election duties which you can't deny). With great power comes great responsibility. Also if you are not passionate about coding or IT related stuff then better do govt job. If you like coding or IT related stuff then stay in IT.
  • in IT if you are unhappy with your salary you can always jump and get the salary you wish provided you have the passion for your work and you are talented enough whereas in govt you have to deal with what you get. In IT if you get bored you can always switch. In govt job you have to deal with people where u r transferred and listen to your seniors. If you are ready to give up the freedom IT gives you go for govt job. It does have certainty but at the cost of freedom.

What u say is true, if u don't bother about money, and if you are a person where you don't compare yourself with fellow people may it be salary or progress you can choose a government job, i will say about myself here, I'm in govt job now, I'm nowhere near the salary of my friends, in government job you will definitely do work because you were working till date, there will be some who will not work and still get the same pay hike like all other do and you should not take that in your mind, a person who work will be over burdened for sure, some time you have to prepare to pretend as if you know nothing, yep job guarantee is there but you have to work upto 60 years of age, if you are in city then inflation will definitely burden your pay for sure, last but not the least try to sniff out what is happening in that particular job where you are about to join and check out for promotion, pay , work nature, type of employees you are going to deal with etc, all the best and gud luck

Join the govt job, your salary would increase drastically next year as 8th pay commission will be implemented.

Even the worst of government jobs trillions times better than private jobs

Basically, you prepared for a government job and got that job, right? So, if you spent time preparing because you wanted something better, don’t overthink it, brother. A government job with a 90k salary is always better.
