Issues with Indian working hours

I am genuinely trying to understand how to handle this situation I am in. There is absolutely no boundaries when we work.

So I work in a team where all the devs are from India, and the managers and stakeholders are a mix of 2 countries.

Yesterday I saw them discussing to schedule a meeting from 11pm - 1:30 am IST and no one was even taking us into consideration they didn't even pretend to ask if we were ok. For our counter parts (manager and PMO) they make sure it's not to early or not too late.

We are expected to forget everything and just be available at any random hour. The first call is at 11am and last one has no time.

Even when we are done at EOD someone comes and expects us to do an entire analysis for a problem before the stakeholders business hour ends or else it would portray that it took us 1 whole day to reply.

Why is it only for us while they seem to respecting everyother timezones.

Then your business hours should be 8 pm to 6 am to align with the stakeholders. Why are you working 9-5 in IST and 9-5 in the stakeholders time zone. If you don't want to speak up and establish boundaries now, you can either look outside and switch or speak out and potentially face consequences

Speak to your HR. Don't you'll have an operations team in India?

I had a called scheduled at 11.30pm to 12:30 am IST. I declined and clearly communicated the US counterparts who had scheduled this call that this is much outside my working hours and will not be able to join. Not sure who all in your team is even willing to join calls this late at night, but maybe you all can collectively raise it with the leadership and they can communicate to the stakeholders in the separate time zone.

I would suggest safeguard yourself first. In these types of situations blames generally comes on devs .

Drop a mail to manager and HR highlightinf the situation and ask for team change.

So in future even if they don't change in your team and make you work in this project and if later and blames comes you can show your mail proof that you already asked for release.

This situation is very tricky

I leaned this hard way
Nobody guided this when I was going thru same situation when an idiot manager made work the team in 24*7 mode that too in an MNC

  1. He got demoted by client
2.he was unable to handle the team
  2. He blamed the team for any project deliverables although team was high performing

Nobody guided me when I was going thru this as a result I had to resign without any fault of mine..and that manager is still enjoying in the same company.

So message work is secondary 1st thing is documentation and protection of ourself at the right timw

There should be more resources with separate shifts.

Just stop replying to pings and decline calls after 5 in eve, snooze the notification, go to gym.

Stop checking messages and reply once you’re in business hours again.

Any request from manager after 5. , goes to next day.

Take time , prepare and move out.

I am in the same boat, i simply stopped giving a fuck and moving out.

Happy hunting, may the odds be everywhere in your favor

There is a STRICT rule that managers can't reach out to their team members outside their working hours. If they do, it's a crime according to govt labour laws. If they request you to extend they should provide food, transport as well as extra pay.

If none of that is happening, put up a fight for your rights and resign.

Labour law is a joke bro
