is ux design or product design worth moving into?
I want to move out of architecture - the work is stressful, long hours, not enough pay and the only ways to earn more and get growth is to go into construction and real estate which I'm not fond of. Is moving into design field in other sectors good? in terms of work life, pay and job market?

Don't think of going to ux roles... Demand is too low from companies as you see 90-10 ratio where you hardly see designer teams to be 2-3 members, most will be developers.
Just go for development and you will have more opportunities, design is easy in the beginning but late game trust me it's a waste of time if you are not able to continue your journey in big companies

You would be better off doing Masters in design from iit-idc or nid. You’ll learn a lot and get a good head start since companies pay well to freshers hiring from these colleges.

I recruit designers and as far as i know i never take a look at their colleges. all that matters is the pf. and yeah if you look deep into the pf's of designers passing out from these colleges, most of them are hilarious.

True. I have encountered some absolute dumbfucks from these college who are only getting by cuz of the tag. Their actual work and attitude is among the worst.
But there are some good folks who actually put in the work but those get snapped up by big tech pretty quickly.

It seems to me that UX and Product Design can be a viable career option.
Many people have successfully transitioned into this field from different backgrounds. The pay can be substantial, although it might not be as high as Software Engineering roles.
The job market for UX and product design is competitive but there are opportunities available in the current market.
It's important to understand that becoming proficient and making good money takes both time and effort. Also, New technologies especially around GenAI can potentially impact the role of designers. Therefore, continuous learning and adaptation is of the essence.

Why do I have a feeling that this is actually a response from Chat GPT?

I agree with some of the comments. The supply is a lot. Some folks have made teaching UX/UI a business and are producing so called Ux/Ui designers in large numbers.
To really stand out please work on your portfolio and make sure that you are good at one particular area - Visual designs, UI, UX, UX writing, UX research.
Right now there is a lack a of good UX writers and UX researchers. But also there are very few openings for these roles since matured product companies hire these kind of designers.

haha, that teaching part😂

The demand is very less rn and the suppy is so much. But the supply is extremely under skilled and at junior level (0-1 yoe). If you believe that you are the “creme de la creme” of the product designers and UX designers in the market. Make a portfolio of that level and start applying whenever there’s an opening. You can do it.

My sister transitioned into a product designer role. Pay is low and not at the level of software engineering but I think it is better than architecture (fresher). You need to be from Design colleges to get paid more or to get noticed at some companies. Plus portfolio matters a lot. It's a competitive field and supply is more. But yeah it's a great field to be in if you have some design background. Also if you learn HTML and CSS with UX/UI design skills. It is cherry on the cake. There are 1-2 designers in a company with 20-30 Developers. You can give it a shot. You won't regret it.

In terms of work life, pay - depends on the company but everyone will low ball you due to the market conditions
