Is there any policy in tcs that says I have to inform my sick leave to team lead and manager via email?

I recently got told by lead that I have to send email to inform about my sick leave. I did inform on WhatsApp and I was really unwell and didn't have the strength to get up and open laptop. I'm aware emails are more formal way to communicate about leaves, but is it really necessary to do so when you are sick?

You even don’t need to receive or call during the sick leave. Consider you’re hospitalised due to accident the how can you call/ send msg to them. If someone say so ask them to share the policy document.

In my view I 100% agree to your statement
Simple WhatsApp message is enough But these people will ask to send emails for sick leave, ask 10^3 reasons for sick leave, schedule deployment on Sankaranthi and no comp-off and even in client holidays they will call

They can focus on providing good hikes/promotions/improving performance pay of senior associates who've worked day in and out for making the firm succeed globally

Ideally you should be putting mail and keep all relevant team members in cc. However if it's serious and you are unable to mail then fine to inform over phone or message.

Mail is better communication & no harm to send a mail.
