Is the primary datastore at your org partitioned across multiple nodes?

I'm giving interviews now, and lot of interviewers ask for partitioning the data across multiple nodes and distributed systems.

Orgs I worked at had close to none databases split across multiple nodes. Single primary and multiple read replicas worked for most use cases.
