is the modern employee's brain damaged after the pandemic?

After the pandemic, something strange happened to the modern employee's brain, especially in India. Companies now value execution over theory. They want to see if you can build a product that solves a problem, not just talk about it.

For most of you, any ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) you get in any company, whether here or outside, just assume it's worth zero today. You would rather intern at Apple for zero than get paid 30k a month at some random company. It will take you 20 years to make serious money if you work here or anywhere else.

The pandemic has left many young employees confused about how to work in a professional environment. Most of you graduated during the pandemic and have never worked professionally. When you get fired, nobody tells you why. You get information from the wrong sources and think your life should be like what you see on social media, which is not true.

Serious companies want to work with people who understand the rules of engagement. They do a process called due diligence to check your past performance. If you have 10 jobs in two years, it shows a lack of seriousness.

The truth is, social media is filled with lies. Young people play status games and post about unrealistic lifestyles. Older people don't tell the truth because they fear being canceled. The reality is, it takes hard work and years of grinding to be successful.

Entrepreneurship is hard. It takes 10+ years to make real money. Most people will fail. The ones who succeed often make less than they would in a job. The gap between ideas and execution is huge.

If you want to succeed, you need to understand the costs of running a company. It's not just about your salary; there are many hidden costs like legal fees, office rent, utilities, and more.

To make big money, you can:

  1. Stay in a fast-growing company for years and hope your ESOPs materialize.
  2. Start a company at an inflection point, but it takes 10 years to work out.
  3. Gain leverage and get to a senior position at a well-known company and work for 20-25 years.

In conclusion, the modern employee's brain might be damaged by unrealistic expectations and misinformation. The key to success is understanding the reality of hard work, long-term commitment, and the true costs of running a business.
