Is TCS' fall inevitable?
Firstly. I am a proud TCSer. Working in the company for 10+ years. So always wished the best for the company. That doesn't mean that I would ignore the challenges company is facing. & Unless they are tackled, the company is on path of decline. Now back to the topic. Last year the biggest customer by revenue for TCS was... Any guesses? It was BSNL(Bharat sanchar Nigam limited). Yes. You read that right! It alone contributed $1.5 billion in TCS revenue. & Even with that, TCS just managed to keep its revenue almost constant yoy. Which simply means unless TCS wins a big customer this year, TCS will register negative revenue growth since 2004. Situation is that serious for TCS. Personally what I feel is this is result of years of neglect in talent development, all for the greed of more profits. A lot of high quality senior leaders who could help in development of next gen path breaking tech, left the company. Just because company didn't want to retain them with higher package. Consider this. Deepseek was developed at cost of $5M. TCS distributed dividend of approx $5B last year. Clearly the company has had money. But no strategic thinking. Then comes the ever lasting love of margins. No matter how low tech solution is, there is constant mandate of 24-26% margins. If companies like Accenture or infosys are managing the same solutions at 14-16% margins, why would a client want to outsource to TCS? Then comes the vicious cycle of the low cost hiring. How can you hire a person in city of Bengaluru at 15-20k/month & expect them to be motivated & best in class talent? Not possible at all. Execution has been very strong point of TCS. The slogan of experience certainty actually meant, we deliver what we promise & promise what we deliver. But with vision less top mgmt & clue less bottom, this execution engine is suffering big time. Because of this, if somebody likes to develop career in tech, companies like Zoho is far better option than TCS. In the era of gen AI, the IT deals are moving towards outcome based models & not at number of people deployed in the project. So very soon TCS has to start the downsizing of the associates who simply can't fit the gen AI projects. With the current approach, TCS can't survive in next 5 years. It needs drastic cultural change from top to bottom. I hope management realises this soon.
One interview, 1000+ job opportunities
Take a 10-min AI interview to qualify for numerous real jobs auto-matched to your profile 🔑This is one of the best and unbiased analysis I have read in recent times. It's been 4 years since I started working with TCS and i definitely see the strong points and brand value of TCS due to which it has been able to survive till now and have been getting the projects but now not focusing in innovation and operating with conservative mindset it is putting TCS at backseat like not retaining the top performer with market rates and also strict no rehire policy to name few. I definitely agree if TCS doesn't sense the pulse of the shift in the market and doesn't care about the employees then there is a tough time ahead and very soon it will not be able to retain the perception of the most secure company in terms of job security. I wish corrective actions are taken as it is good for the tech community and for our country as well.
Thanks!
Forgot to add this point of 'no rehire' policy. If you are hiring for a position, the person with required skill sets should be hired. Irrespective of past TCS experience. In fact of he/she has seen the world outside of TCS, they might actually be bringing industry best practices.
But no. Simply because that person might be at higher package level, they don't want to rehire him.
If you want to save money in everything, you won't get better talent at all. & That will cause problem with innovation, then you won't get new deals, then you have to reduce package & then this vicious cycle continues.
There is a simple Mantra in india . If you don't want to spend money, then you won't expect the quality. This is applicable for everything.
Fate of Kodak,Nokia etcc is waiting for TCS. Not a single out of the box initiatives other than forcing for some certifications, MLT etcc.
At the same time due to their scam on variable, REAL talented guys are leaving and they are slowly left over with legacy skilled workforce
Kodak was actually an innovator of the digital camera tech. But they were in love with the margins of the legacy products i.e. camera films. So protect the margins, they actually tried to jeopardize the digital tech. Eventually digital camera became the reason of kodak's decline. Storage similarity here. How love of margins hampered culture of innovation & eventually destroyed the company.
Company is destroyed by tamil people .
