Is Severance Package mentioned in offer letter?

If it isn’t mentioned, is it commonplace to point that out or does it come off negatively? Or is the severance an obligation of the company legally?

It usually is assumed as the amount of notice. Any thing above is ex gratia and won't ever be in an offer letter. What if they go skint and can't pay it?
