You screwed the poll. Very very very few students take 2-3 drops for JEE. and NEET is out of the question it is the undergrad UPSC exam. question should only be for a year. and yes a year drop for JEE is worth it. Seeing the posts on this app and on the internet. A good college and community is a good route for MANY people (including you 😘).

2-3 yrs I meant including 11-12th. Baaki don't assume anything about me sir. Aap point PE raho ✌️

Bro how does 11th 12th JEE prep counts as a sacrifice?

Sacrifice comes into picture after 12th when one sacrifices their age among their peers.

I have nothing against you. Would love you to have an open mind and learn instead of being defensive. ❤️

Your life is set after getting into IIT

There cannot be a bigger lie than this.

Trust me! I took it literally after getting into IITD (had a decent rank), didn’t pay attention to studying and other activities.

Had nothing to show in my cv Ended up in a shitty first job

Things went downhill from there

You gotta work harder to get out of IIT successfully than to get in!

Yes agree. I have seen many people from non-iits doing much better than iitians. The struggle (or opportunity)in India continue after joining college.

In my personal life. I have never met someone who in their engineering life wouldn't swap their college with IITD, B, K, M in a heartbeat.
Everyone who talks bad about them are just jealous. We can't get in.
And yes, life is bigger than IIT, but just understanding we didn't win that place and that time is a fuel for someone while salt for most

SquishyBanana

I disagree..IITs are severely overrated imo. Yes few geniuses join it but most iitians are above average people with decent careers, nothing special. And research-wise also iits haven't contributed much last many years. Profs are not inspiring , seen from many lectures on YouTube.
This halo effect of IITs is a constructed idea by coaching institutes and media combined. And of course continued by companies by giving few iitians multi crore packages.

What have the non iitians done?
As I said, I maybe set in my ways as I am older, but as a younger guy I have made all the same excuses as well, and what eventually all of this is excuses.

I couldn't clear the exam so the place is shit.
I couldn't make the shot, so game is rigged.

Every Non iitian who did well is someone whom iit didn't let in and take the branch they wanted( in some cases)

If you have the discipline, patience and courage to pursue what you want ultimately, then by all means avoid it. If not, focus on our studies(holds for all entrances).
Ultimately, it's a game of probability. If you get into a good college, chances of you becoming successful are exponentially higher(not just in terms of placements. Other things like peer groups and the environment also matter). Don't focus on outliers of tier-3.

At 11th,12th standard very few students know what they want ultimately. They need to explore the world more to find out. Won't deeply Focusing on JEE stop student from exploring the world?

That's the point. They don't know what they want. Most are not mature enough to make the decisions for themselves. And again, it needn't necessarily be JEE or even engineering. There are a bunch of options, even among the conventional programs(core sciences, economics, CA, Law, medicine). You can pick the one which seems the most interesting/rewarding among them. We live in an age where a chosen field isn't for life. You can pivot at a later point once you know what you want. There are n number of examples like that.

Whole life is there for exploring. 2 years of rigour and discipline helps a lot in the future trust me. Social media focuses a lot on the negatives.

It's totally upto you! You define what's worth for you and only you! Don't give a damn about what the world thinks is worth or not

SquishyBanana

Agree if it fits well with your future goals then makes perfect sense. It's dangerous if you are just doing it under peer or parental pressure.

Problem is even if you clear your dream college, there is a high chance of burn out. I have seen in several students in tier 1 colleges.

Graduated from one of the options here, it totally depends on you. Can royally fuck up even if you are a part of these colleges, so again it totally depends on you

Lol what are you sacrificing? Have you seen 4-5 year olds picking rags at 4 in morning in chilling Delhi weather ? Have you seen the kids begging for milk? They are sacrificing their childhood. No one deserves that.

The posts reeks of lazyness and out of world touch. Please dont give this gyaan to someone else and ruin their lives. Keep it to yourself, whatever your interests maybe.

Obsession with IITs is overhyped

I can say that the obsession with IITs is definitely overhyped. Don't get me wrong, IITs are great institutions with some of the brightest minds, but the way they are glorified is just too much.

First of all, the pressure on students to...
