Is Rapido lowballing me?
I got a verbal offer from Rapido’s HR with barely a 15% hike. All fixed, no variable. HR said they want to buy out my notice period and can also offer a joining bonus. I come with a 7 YOE in growth marketing. Currently working with a well established company with wfh benefits. My reason for switching was I don’t see much growth here and there are layoff conversations happening every now and then. But a 15% hike sounds unreasonable on so many levels! What are your thoughts? Is the market that bad? Are these the hike percentages in the market now? How should I negotiate around this?

As For the how.. Research what is the pay range in Rapido and similar companies /similar job profiles (you can ask Chat Gpt to use Grapevine to do the research for you) it's usually not very off in its inferences. Then add if you have any specialized skill.. Highlight that to the HR. Ask what their annual hike cycle is.. If you join now and are eligible to be part of a hike cycle in 6/9 months see if it can be offset

Real talk. The hike is not the issue here, but Rapido is a downgrade for you coming from Hotstar if in growth (hotstar will do silent firing post IPL). Rapido has expanded ride base but not growing as a company, they’re in solidifying phase. You should take even a 10% hike right now if the offer is from Blinkit/zepto (Swiggy is conservative) because these 2 are growing af. You do you tho, depends on personal situation if you need the money. Rapido is not detailed or relaxed as hotstar.

Anyway, I might not go ahead with Rapido if they don’t rectify the offer. Hotstar is at a tricky place rn with lots of politics and no growth but it still comes with perks like wlb, wfh benefits etc.
