Is over emphasis on DEI bad for companies?

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is getting too much attention. Recent outrage towards Harvard, UPenn presidents over their emphasis on DEI is criticized heavily. Even companies have started considering this criteria in job interviews, promotions etc. what’s your opinion on this.

DEI is against meritocracy and hurts talent

DEI is first world problem, and not relevant for Indian environment

DEI is only limited to US and other western countries

DEI is required as we still have straight male dominated environment

Hurts to see male candidates not getting interviews but female candidates getting jobs due to diversity hiring. Hiring should be totally based on meritocracy
