Is it normal with tech forks?

I started my career as a backend developer and started liking the domain and started learning new stuff and getting better at it now after working for 2.5 years being a backend dev in two different startups i recently joined a big tech as a software engineer and i am asked to learn front end frameworks like vue.js i don’t mind learning new stuff but nor feel great as well as i always wanted to take my tech career in backed side of thing . Yes i was told before joining 20/80 % (frontend/backend). Not complaint or something just wanted to understand other forks pov on this .

Peace

Keep learning and be happy you are doing it. Front-end is something everyone should learn at some point.

As far as promise by company during interviews, don't take it to heart. It could have come up 3 months after joining and still you would be in same position.

As you grow up in your career, you can’t limit yourself to specific technology or domains. Also, most product based companies these days, expect that you know both frontend and backend. In fact they keep pushing you to learn newer techs, which is good in fact. Only if you are extremely great in your specific wished technology/language, you can put your foot down and refuse to learn new things, otherwise it is a given thing. You just need to learn everything which comes your way.
