Is it good to get informal with bosses?

I see people who slack at work but are very casual with bosses, they seem to be growing well. I'm here keeping it professional and doing the work they slack off on. But I'm staying in the same spot at work, seeing this makes me think if I should start behaving like them What do you guys suggest?
