Is it good enough to opt for a Bank SO after IIM?

I graduated from an old IIM where I wanted to work in the finance domain. But I am stuck in an IT job where I am not even using my teachings of MBA and it is a job equivalent to a BTech Grad (Oracle EPM). For this reason I thought of opting for Bank SO. Planning to do it for 3-4 years which will set my career in core finance and help me switch to a different and strong finance job in future. But I am having doubts as it will be tough to handle my education loan. Where I would be earning half what I am getting here in my post IIM job. (Will be getting 60k pm in my SO whereas I am earning 1.2L pm currently in a toxic environment and in a state where I don't understand the language)

Tell me more about your company? What type of culture is there?

Too much micromanaged by my manager. Whatever I do, the manager takes the credit for it and does not give any appreciation to me. No credit, no appreciation, no respect for the ideas and info you give. Plus I didn't want to be in IT where I feel like my MBA from a Tier 1 college is a waste.

Is it not possible for you to try CFA?

I was opting for SO as I got exams this month. For CFA, I have to prepare for 6 months at least and meanwhile I want to leave or switch from this company ASAP.

Is getting finance jobs from old IIMs difficult

SwirlyBagel

Dude don’t go for a bank. Especially if it’s not a private sector new gen bank. I switched from an MNC to an old bank recently. I think I did a career suicide. Bank jobs are nothing but glorified sarkari naukri. I joined to setup an inhouse growth team for them and Im already looking an out. Processes suck and you will be surrounded by uncles and aunties who don’t want to grow or work on interesting projects. They’re there for the 9-5 chill. If you’re a person who is interested in solving good problems and want to contribute meaningful things try joining an international bank or fintech startups. Banks won’t work for you if you have worked in corporates. I hate my life rn because of this stupid job I have. Don’t do the same mistake that I did.
