Is it even possible to separate personal life from professional life?
Say you're meeting friends and they ask what you're up to. So many times people start bitching about their work or ask for solutions to their work/team problems from friends.
Even at work, if you don't know someone personally to an extent, it becomes difficult to work with them and understand them well. It is expected of you to be surface level friends at least with your colleagues to build a rapport.
Anything tragic that happens on personal front affects professional front, and vice versa.
People talk about work life balance all the time, but to me it seems like a farce. Personal is professional and professional is personal, it's nearly impossible to draw lines which everyone can clearly agree upon.
What do you think?

Separation is only possible to an extent since both of these lives are yours only, and both of them affect each other.

That's still very subjective though, how do people even come up with rules that work for everyone?

Simple. It doesn't. No set of rules can ever ever work for everyone. You can have a set of advice, how to keep most of your work and personal life separate, but rules? Not possible
