Is ISB worth it ?

Hi all, ive been thinking of prepping for gmat get scores by Aug/Sept and apply for ISB post that.

Firstly, my current CTC is in 20s and median salary post ISB is ~30ish. Do you think it makes sense to get an MBA ?

Im also thinking having a brand plus strong alumni network may help in future so money may not be the only reason for me to do it.

Open for your inputs/pov.

ISB or any MBA is not worth it in today's world imho.
Firstly, hiring for traditional MBA jobs (Consulting, IB and FMCG) has gone down drastically. MBB recruiting has been poor all over the world, not just india.
Secondly, MBA has zero value in today's world as we are in a skill based economy.

I know people who went to instead and LBS. Even with 5 years of experience, they couldn't find a job in Europe. Now they're back in india and are working for 30 LPA.

I see a lot of people on LinkedIn who went to IE, ESSEC, ESADE, EDHEC, come back to India and work at startups in some random marketing, ops or founders office roles.
I'm sure none of these people will be making even 40 lpa.

ISB fees itself touches 50L, and including mohali campus, they have around 900 students. Out of these 900 people, how many do you think will land even a 50+ package???

Your post MBA salary also depends highly on your pre MBA salary. Don't forget that.

Also, startups don't give a crap about your MBA. Do an MBA only if you want to get into F500/1000 or IB/Consulting.

Taking all expenses into account, with 60 lakhs, you can open a cafe or bakery and be set for life, AI-proof.

Hey man, sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, but personal business is much better than having a job, given the AI evolution.

But since you name-called me first, switch from TCS you 3.5lpa fomo bitchless teen. And please leave a little late for your 9 to 5 at donkey warehouse so that your mom can stop coming to my house.

Isb fees is 50lakh including food/travel. The actual cash in hand after graduation is around 1.5-2. Now calculate your ROI accordingly

What about its alumni network ? Could prove to be beneficial in the long run ?

1yr job loss and loans and interest. In that much money you can get a significant pension for life with principal safe. Coming to money it doesnt come by degree ( can help in start not in long run, its all whats in you that matters )

Why not CAT and then good IIM ?

CAT won’t make sense after 4-5 years of work ex.

If you can switch and earn 30LPA within an year then dont go to ISB. If you cant reach 30 LPA within an year or two and you hate your current job responsibilities then you should go for ISB

SillyCoconut
SillyCoconut

True. I'm also thinking on this. Reaching 30LPA is mot far fetched to me.

I might just give the gmat and have the score handy. What do you think ?

My suggestions, based on my younger brother experience who had completed iim Indore a last years. Now he is in Deloitte and getting 25 lpa.He also was placement committee head.

person getting 40lpa and 50lpa got resigned due to stress and work pressure.

You are already getting 20 lpa.If you are ready to take high pressure in company and take risk leave job to pursue mba during very bad IT market

Ah, well im open to hearing other people's opinion.

One thing is looking at ROI but the other is the brand name, alumni network and you never know what doors it could open in future.

Hear opinions from folks who went through the grind not those who has never attended a premier institute

SwirlyBurrito
SwirlyBurrito

Go for it , ISB is well known globally than than the top 3 IIMs as well. And I like the fact that ISB takes in folks with 2+ years of work exp unlike IIMs that take in grads fresh out of college. The real value of an MBA is not the immediate monetary RoI. If that's the only thing then doing an MBA is prolly a wrong choice altogether
