Is a Degree Still Necessary?

Hey guys! I am thinking of re-enrolling myself in a college program. After my 12th, I dropped out for a year and then went to pursue a program in AI & ML, but dropped out due to some financial issues. Still, I plan to make a career in CS or IT. Is a degree still necessary, or can I upskill and learn independently to achieve my goals?

Also, I would like to have suggestions from you guys on what path I should choose or what skills I should focus on.

Yes, a Bachelor’s degree is necessary.
No, strong skills can surpass the need for a degree.
It depends.

Please please do a bachelors. In almost all workplaces it is a minimum criteria if you want to work in offices. Don’t listen to the linkedin gyaan that all fake coaches give

In India, there's no downside to having a degree. A lot of companies do have a minimum Bachelors degree requirement. Degree is basically something that is better to have and not have a need for it than need it but not have it.

That being said, CS is truly beautiful, why not use the degree to go through the fundamental subjects?

Nice advice! Does an online degree works the same?

Wouldn't recommend. Interacting with people and making your network is something you should do in your Bachelors. And I don't want you to regret not going to college in Future. Some of your dear friends and relationships might come from a college environment. Why not give it a try?

A minimum bachelors is needed, no matter what anyone says.

I have a Bachelor's degree, and I don't work in a field that is related to the academics.

But there years got me educated on a lot of things. It also gave me a lot of opportunities (outside academics). It made me who I'm today. It taught me how to navigate adversities and ambiguities, how to work with juniors, senior, faculties and administration. It helped me build valuable connections, an opportunity to try things and embrace failure.

Yes, what I learnt as a part of academics has nothing to do with my current work (except a few generic subjects). But everything else makes me realise that the 4 years I spent in the college was worth it.

Even I thought degree doesn't matter. Even I wanted to be done with the degree or to drop my course as well. But it will build you, and gets you going on the journey forward.

Also, almost all the companies would prefer someone with a degree unless there's some really strong reason. Without College, you may develop skills, but you may not develop as a human being 💁🏻‍♂️

Agree with that, exposure is necessary.👍

🔵 For those who are exceptional and have skills, it's a waste of time and money.
🔴For others it's their life's opening to much more opportunities.

Not having a degree will automatically eliminate you from multiple opportunities. It has an opportunity cost. If possible get a degree.

Although its still possible to get good opportunity without degree, but amount of effort needed will be much higher. Degree makes sure your resume atleast gets you to the people who matter.

Bro, suppose in future if you plan to do some Master’s or MBA, then you will regret not doing your bachelor's degree. Trust me to move in a higher position in a company (if your are not unicorn startup founder) you will be needing some credentials with you.

A Bachelors degree is a must , i don't think quoting yourself as "12th pass" will bring credibility

Law of averages How capitalism works State of affairs in India.

Logical consideration of the above should clearly conclude that for maximum exposure to most opportunities, try for a bachelor's degree from as prestigious a college possible.
