Is $100k in the US actually better than ₹40L in India?

Well, I don't know, but this random side project (https://www.in-hand.in/nri/) I ended up building while working on in-hand.in tries to answer a question NRIs often ask:

"If I earn $100k in the US, what is that actually equivalent to in India?"

Currency conversion is useless for this because cost of living is completely different.

$100k in San Francisco and ₹80L in Bangalore might actually give you a similar lifestyle… or not. Depends on rent, food, taxes, etc.

So this small tool tries to estimate salary equivalence across cities of different countries using purchasing power + cost differences.

You can try things like:

  • $120k in US vs India
  • £70k UK vs India
  • Dubai salary vs Mumbai salary

It also breaks down where the money actually goes (housing, food, transport, etc).

Sharing in case it's useful to someone here. Also curious if the numbers feel right to people living abroad.
