Is 0-1 good as entry level?

Hi all, I am an SDE, trying to shift to the PM role. Entering established firms is extremely difficult as they are looking for IIM or previous experience as PM.

But I have found a 0-1, where they are first time founders, the product cause is something I am feeling personally, and looking at the current employee base, it looks like they are not stuck on having only pedigree. Most importantly, the product is of my interest, and something which I myself use day to day. So in that case, should it be a good decision to explore opportunities at that startup even if it is 0-1?

What is the advice that you would give?

0-1 firms are very tricky for PMing 1/ loose definition of product - you're pivoting all the time 2/ product practices are questionable 3/ no one to guide you and make you succeed in your practice

Having said that, if the firm succeeds then you don't really need to prove on any of the above point. If not, then above points would still be questioned when you go out for a job hunt

Yeah makes sense. Out of curiosity, when would you consider the product successful? Specifically if it is consumer tech, will it be user growth and engagement or when it hits revenue? Or both?
