5 years is a good long term period. I'd suggest you invest in debt and equity with 10:90 ratio .

For equity you can invest via smallcase or invest in index funds.

8-12% returns is good, anything above that is a bonus.

If you want to achieve 15-20% pa which is above market average, be prepared to also put much higher than average time and research into picking mutual funds and stocks.

And of course you can't just pick a MF/stock once and forget about it. You have to review your portfolio every 3 months, check for changes in your portfolio companies, like any regulations, top management change, promoters holding, sales, revenue, EBITDA, etc.

If you want to beat the market, be ready to beat others in the research as well.

Or if you want market returns just invest in Nifty and Banknifty index fund and forget about it.

A decent allocation on mutual funds would make you 15% pa over a 5 year horizon

Minimal risk with 15-20 % returns is tough to find. You’ll have to invest in Mutual funds and equities. Maybe get a financial advisor for this.
If you want to play it safe, invest in GoI bonds or corporate bonds that give fixed rate of returns around 7-8% and the risk is low.

15-20% with min risk is hard without equity. I would suggest Mutual Funds are the way to go, but don't invest the whole amount in one shot as you may want to invest more when the market goes down.
