Investing for 6 months, returns are low. Should you really "time" the mkt?

I have been investing in PPFAS, Quant small cap, ELSS and MO midcap for 6 months. I have an SIP, and whenever I have more savings I put it in ELSS or flexi cap.

Even on good days, my returns never exceed 8%. It honestly feels like the days my SIP triggers the market has always been high. My friends have also been investing with the same split, but their returns are much higher.

At this point, I honestly feel like I'd have gotten similar returns from FD.

I know I'm probably a little stupid thinking this and I should hold for some more time.

Should I really time the market and invest? But it's honestly a little discouraging.

No point timing the market. Forget your investments for 5-10 years at least before you see them growing for real.

Equity needs atleast 5 years. You will see amazing difference after that. Whenever there is a crash (like 1% drop in Sensex) pump in more money that apart from your regular sips.

Investing in market is about spending time in the market. Your returns will be better after a couple of years.
