(Internal Audit Manager VP) I am declining an offer (AVP) and it still felt good because it was a step down. Thoughts?

Declined because I am a VP and offered with an AVP role with lower band, but with the hike I asked and a welcome bonus. Doing this by thinking futuristic, to have better career path. Good or bad?
