India's First Hyperloop Test Track Gets $1M Boost
- Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced an additional $1 million funding for IIT Madras to further develop India's first hyperloop test track, 'Avishkar'.
- The 422-metre-long track aims to test high-speed trains in near-vacuum conditions, potentially reaching speeds over 1,000 km/hour.
- This technology could enable travel from Mumbai to Ahmedabad in less than an hour, significantly reducing travel time.
- The project is jointly funded by Indian Railways, Larsen & Toubro, and ArcelorMittal, with plans for a 50km commercial corridor in the future.
- The hyperloop system, first conceptualized in the 1970s, is being actively developed worldwide, with eight promising projects currently underway.
