In podcasts and YT channels about India, lot of conversations goes around need of India to be digitally Atma-Nirbhar especially in the social media space.

What they mean is India should have its own WhatsApp, X, Facebook, Amazon etc. China did it from the beginning. Is it too late for India to build the apps and our own social media now?

It’s too late for India, we have to stick with American dominated apps
No, India must develop its own with govt support and our software startups
No need, we have our CEO’s like Satya and Sundar who would help India
Atleast keep the data enters in India with our strict data policies like Europe
India and US are partners now, no need to worry
Our govt and people don’t care about data privacy and social media influence yet

I think it's slightly early for Indian social media. All social media business models needs advertising money (unless some other successful business model comes up).

I trust our greedy American overlords more then I trust our wannabe build for Bharat founders

It's about adoption. I am not understanding why we should reinvent the wheel here? What do we get by that?

Yes, we need more startups, but to solve problems pertaining to India. Why do we have to make another social media app? Existing ones cause enough chaos in life
