I'm not understanding what companies actually want.

Recently got interviewed at HPE. As my interview started, it was a balanced conversation. The interviewer was already impressed with my resume or at least he said that he is impressed.

The interview was scheduled for 30 minutes but it went for 50 minutes. At least the interviewer told me that my skills aligned exactly with what they were looking for, so I was hoping for the next round, but unfortunately, I received a sorry email.

Now I'm confused if my skills aren't aligned or if someone referred someone at the last moment.

I'm also curious to know that if everything goes well and the interviewer is impressed then why don't he selected the candidate?

Because they might have found a different candidate they are more impressed with 🤷‍♂️

An interview is not like an exam, where if you did well then you pass. It's more of a race with other candidates for the same position.

You might have done well, but if some other candidate did better, then they get the job

Interviews are a number game, like dating.

If one doesn't work out, don't spend much time overthinking it, and move onto the next one. Sooner or later, you will find success with one of them.

HPE has recently acquired Juniper Systems. So there are some internal changes going on. So it might also be a reason.
