You need to change secondary skill to primary while working on project. Make sure secondary skill is on project. If you get roll off from a project, you'll get moved to bench. It's not possible to change skill on bench and you'll not get project based on the required skill.

You can request a roll-off, but it's not guaranteed. Make sure your secondary skill is in demand and talk to your manager about it.
