Idea validation of Healthy prebiotic soda for the Indian market.

I am planning to start a healthy prebiotic soda, just like drinkolipop.com and drinkpoppi.com for India. What is your take on it?

Yakult always felt a viagra-like product to me from its packaging and advertisements. I hope you don't advertise yours like that.

Hahaha....No, never.

Dude, honestly it sounds like a great idea. Just try to get the execution part right. Do provide the following ups on your product. Cheers.

Yaaaa, let's see how it goes.

This will work if you are able to crack the beverage industry. Healthy beverages post COVID has boomed as a sector and new beverages like kombucha, turmeric milk etc are also getting a lot of attention

But, what are the usual challenges this industry faces? Any idea about it??

BubblyPotato

Yeah actually it depends on the distribution channels which are dominated by coke and Pepsi. Plus the cold chain logistics are really bad in India

I explored this Idea, got the taste and formula formulated, worked with contract manufacturers and did some tasting research then paused. Also spoke with a lot of people who started in a similar sector in India.

The main points of discussion were:

  1. Very price sensitive market.
  2. Non addictive products don't sell as repeat is very low - No Sugar/No caffeine
  3. Small successful drinks like Lahori Zeera/ Bindu etc are regional as taste changes with geography fast.
  4. Focus on both Brand and Distribution is hard. Most players get only one right.
  5. Outside QC it will be hard to push costly products.
  6. Listing on QC is hard, they want brands who spend on marketing and have demand. They also expect somewhere around 40% on initial days.

Will love to speak with others working on similar idea

Then why didn't you pursue it? Any specific challenges you faced that might help us. If you are more specific maybe that would help anyone who is reading this thread in future.

If you’re serious about actually starting it - don’t count on these comments. A lot of people might say they’ll want it, but 1-2% of them will actually pay the $ and buy it.

  1. Ask indirect questions - do you currently drink beverage, when, how much do you pay for it - ask these questions to understand who and when might get such a beverage. You can read the book the mom test or a summary of it to understand how to question indirectly to get the most unfiltered validation.

  2. Run your idea and insights through different perspectives to really see if it’s making sense. Here’s a tool you can use - https://pushstart.club/products/the-idea-lab

This is some good insights. But the reason for asking here is to understand, am i not seeing something that others are able to see or maybe a second opinion.

Hi, I am working on the similar concept and currently live in Canada. I am familiar with most prebiotic soda options available here. I would love to connect.

Ig this prebiotic soda won't get that much exposure because of how indians think in terms of soda

Yaaa, but this can be a unique thought to trigger in people when they see this. I personally want to try olipop, but they simply don't exist in the Indian market and whatever is available on Amazon is too expensive.

PeppyPenguin

I would actually love it. I dont know how mass this can go but definitely for office it can work if priced aggressively.

Yaaaa, so i always struggle to find something in the party which is healthy. But fruit juice is filled with Sugar and coke or pepsi are simply NO.

Office space seems to be a good idea.

Would be great! There's no healthy alternatives to beverages for an occasion or party yet..

I know right, there are none at present.
