I want to switch from APM to Tech Role

I am an entry level APM who graduated this year. Before that I had 3 years of internship experience in growth, tech and product.

I started feeling void recently, looking at my engineering team. I felt that although PMs are required we have to accept that we don't have any hard skill where we can vouch for ourselves. I myself am good at SQL and stuff but still I feel quite sad and fear of missing out on having some actual tangible skill.

I need two help from you all.

What field in tech should I choose and from which sources should I choose?

P.S - I am a little bit tilted towards FE.

Do whatever you enjoy the most. If you're inclined towards FE, go for it.

You can expand your skillset to BE later. FYI, PM to FE is going to be harder than FE to BE.

Interesring. Why would the transition be harder?

PM to FE is non-SWE to SWE, BE to FE is SWE to SWE only

Bhai, just curious how will audiences opinion will help you here ?

You are tilted towards FE, do some hands on in FE area. Dekh maja aa raha ya nahi.

Ya toh questions clear ki kisme jyada paisa hai?

If you enjoy , heavy logic driven work ( like that of SQL , go for backend .

If you enjoy, understanding the customer experience and make the customer do things you want , go for front-end.

If you are good at math and enjoy statistics, go for AI/ ML ...

In my current role, I do build logic too. By that I mean I try to keep backend infra in my mind while solutioning so that minimum work needs to be done by the backend team.

Also, I love improving user experience on the app. That's why I'm a bit confused if I go after FE or BE.

Also, since there is an abundance of resources I get overwhelmed. Can you suggest some good resources where I can rely upon.

I think it is just you have to take a call and jump or else do a full stack developement , and then you can start specialising in one area .

Easiest web framework based on experience - Django

Anyways, If you want to learn
Backend - start with Python .
Frontend - start with Figma , html, js, bootstrap ( progressively) .

Freecodecamp was helpful .

Software development is more of doing than thinking . The more you do it you will have better idea ...

Do both and then take a call.
Shouldn't take more than 2 months :) , hopefully .....!!!

Your post is an example of how difficult it is becoming now for PMs to survive.

It's not about surviving but doing some work where I can own the credit.

When things go well, everyone is praised and if not PM is blamed from all directions.

Pick the one you like, but take any opportunity you get to learn something else. Gone are the days where you could just learn one of them and you're done. You need to keep learning.
