I want to live my life...

I am a software engineer and have been working in the cooperate for 1.5 years and everyday it's like hell for me. I do like solving problems and building things but not in the corporate environment where you are constantly in a fear and stress about missing deadlines which completely took the fun part out of it. I want to follow my passions like playing sports, going to the gym, reading books, playing instruments and exploring new places. At the end of the day after 9 - 6, I have no energy left in me to do anything else. I don't want to continue this lifestyle until my body is incapable of doing the things I actually love. So all I can have regrets in the end.

If your management is dragging you to work excessive hours then you need to switch.

Detach from the job emotionally

Start the day with something you love

sadly but this thing is going almost in all companies, everyone expect us to extend our working hours. I am also fed up with this, i dont get time to do anything apart from my job.

All the work pressure u are feeling will go away once you master the skill you are working in, then you will be defining the deadlines if they don't accept ask them to release from the project which they won't do , once they know that you are having good technical skills.

It's my personal experience.

Brother you have worked like that for 1.5 years yahan 11.5 years ho gya h. Leave India if you want to live your life. Here there are 1000 more desperate people to work 12hrs per day if you don't do 9-6.

This is most realistic comment I have read here so far.

Some pointers

  1. you are paid a salary so that u can make more money for the business hence “fun” and “passion” come secondary to business in a company but most companies establish a good balance
  2. assuming your 23-25 yrs of age , you should have plenty of energy left over outside of 9-6 , pls Check ur diet and motivation levels

“Most companies establish a good balance”

who told you that lol? This is India. Highly competitive market. If you don’t grind, the next guy will do you job and more with half the pay.

Just because Google has chill life doesn’t mean every other place is the same.

Many people chasing FIRE due to this but I would suggest to find sometime for the things you love. If not in current company, switch to better one. Eventually if money is not a big problem then you can work in low stress company with lower pay and find time for all the things you love to do.

can totally relate to what you’re feeling. Corporate life often drains out the passion we started with. But remember—your skills as a software engineer can give you options beyond 9–6 stress. Try exploring freelancing, startups, or even remote projects where you control your schedule. And don’t forget, small steps like giving even 30 minutes a day to your passions (sports, music, reading) can slowly bring balance. Life isn’t meant to be only about deadlines—you deserve to live it on your own terms too.

Agreed. Remote job has way better work life balance. No travel. No bitching around. No gossips. Just work and chill. I am in this setup and it's best.

You do have the energy you just don’t step out of your room buddy, start going out even if you’re feeling tired. I am replying to your comment after working 9-8 and then going to gym and having dinner. So stop over exaggerating things like this the fear deadlines is to make you work not you to stop living or loving your life… Be a warrior always be up to the challenges with a smiling face. And yes most important thing have friends they do help a lot.

You have deep worry about something very close to your heart. Find. Cig&Sip is a temporary solution opted.

You need to sit down with yourself and jot it on paper the worry part of your life and you will never Cig&Sip again trust me.

We can do this together if need be. Please try in isolation, we still have time.

Yup I couldn’t believe my eyes some people are trying to act tough by glorifying how shit their work life balance is. I don’t even know what they are trying to prove to the world. Lord forgive if anyone is trying to have life outside of the work. Even tho there were many negative comments I’m glad the numbers of positive people who were trying to help far exceed that.
