I use fake compliments to motivate freshers to do my work. Is that a bad thing?
I've been reading through this group, and it got me thinking about a situation at work that I’m starting to question. Let me explain.
There's one guy on my team who is pretty lazy, almost to the point of being unmotivated. But I figured out that if I compliment him on his work (his work is meh), he becomes attentive and starts really working hard. Same with others: I complimented this fresher for their coding, and suddenly they’re working hard up without me asking.
This actually works and I am able to get more work done.
It’s not manipulative right?
Last week, a couple of freshers overheard me talking to another colleague about how I use compliments to get results. Now they’re acting cold towards me, and I'm getting the sense they feel manipulated.
What should I do?

You will become manager in TCS soon

Yes it is a bad thing. Freshers need guidance and not ur fake compliments

Using fake compliments is manipulative and can backfire. Be genuine. Build trust with honest feedback. Reflect on your leadership style. It's time to mend relationships and motivate ethically.

Seriously 🤣🤣🤣🤣 fake compliments...do u trust people who all compliment ur work ?

Once ur in a position to mentor juniors - even if u say genuine reasons and guide / help them to get work done OR Fake compliment to get the work done atlast you will be criticised… so no change in that. I got criticised for helping 😅
Lesson learnt:
—————————-
just mentor them , help them ONLY if THEY ASK . They need to understand the roles and responsibilities. Dont back them when someone scolds them about quality of their work. Automatically juniors will seek guidance from seniors.

It is manipulative for sure, but in a good way. Make sure to reward them for their hard work when it comes to rating and promotions. Fight for what they deserve. The cold reaction will go away.
Probably it is time for those speeches. 🫣

Corporate is a fake world!! Fake calls, fake meetings , fake deadlines and fake people hence I don't take things seriously. I have always plan B ready , when my mind will say now it is too much then I will leave this world and start working with my plan B.

The psychology of this exact scenario is explained in chapter 1 and 2 of how to win friends and influence people. Read that you would get more clarity.

Imagine your son or daughter facing the same from their managers. Being loyal and empathetic always makes things work.
