I relocated internationally for work, but visa issues are forcing me to return home. How do you salvage a career after an aborted expat assignment?

I uprooted my life for this opportunity, and now bureaucracy is sending me back. I'm worried about how this will look on my resume. Has anyone successfully spun a shortened international stint into something positive?
