🌎I missed the "Year in Review" recap Google stopped sending, so I built MyTravelRecap

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, I was pretty disappointed when Google discontinued the Google Maps Timeline web interface and stopped sending those annual "Year in Review" recap emails. I loved seeing the stats on how many cities I visited or how many miles I traveled.

Since the data is now stored on-device, I decided to build MyTravelRecap.com.

What it does: It takes your Google Takeout location history (JSON) and generates a visual year-end summary similar to what Google used to provide—showing your top cities, total distance, and travel highlights and let you share these in social media as infographic card.

Privacy & Open Source:

Privacy First: Your data is processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Open Source: I’ve made the code public so anyone can audit it or help improve it.

Contribute: If you’re a dev, feel free to jump in! https://github.com/imarinzone/mytravelrecap

I need your help: I’m looking to make this better. What other stats or visualizations would you want to see?

I have mostly used cursor as I am backend developer and its a frontend project. You can check my git commits it was initially written in go for backend but shifted to fully frontend because of privacy concern.
