I hate it here!

Some of the highlights of my 3 years here as a software engineer:

  • Most of my time here has been on the bench. I begged to be staffed...no one cares. My advice to people on the bench is to forget trying to get a new role and use the time to find a new job.

  • Not having any control over my career direction. They're constantly throwing different skillsets at you (AWS, then data science, now GenAI). The minute I feel I'm becoming proficient at one thing, they switch me to some other project. It's exhausting and not good for career development. Looking at other job postings, they typically want a software engineer with a specialty.

  • No same-level raises, despite crazy inflation. What a joke.

  • Given a shitty laptop that can barely do anything I need it to do for my job

I'm out!

Most importantly, If you are in or out they really don't care.

Let me suggest something my friends have been doing. Enroll in a course like Java full stack or Data Engineering, learn very well this time (coz we all know why we are still here). Apply for jobs by creating a resume and experience session should have projects and technologies you learnt in the course.( you really have to manipulate this time, like we all did while joining TCS). Rooting for you, All the best 👍

How long you have been in bench now? Are you meeting RMG daily and getting interviews scheduled by them? What are the Job roles you looking. As he said in previous comment if you dont have competencies in iEvolve acquire them. Do sample projects of your own and be prepared at any instant to get onboarded. Prepare more on interview questions and answers you faced previously. Prepare for skills which are on high demand, not only skills you have.
