I don't think most people realize this..

If you remove meetings, reporting, approvals, and internal coordination, a shocking percentage of white-collar jobs produce less than 3 hours of real output per day. Not because people are lazy. Because the system is designed to look busy, not be effective. This isn't a critique. It's an explanation for why so many people feel exhausted without feeling useful.

So what’s the solution, do work without designs, discussions or necessary approvals? If the intent is not that, then the statement of system is designed to look busy is wrong.

OP possibly means HR work. That's the only role where those activities are the most, and the most useless.

Never complaint about existing systems if you don’t have better solutions.
The current system was never perfect and it will never be .
People who felt something is wrong provided solutions to improve it and implemented whatever was possible.

Communication is part of the job and its exhaustive as well. An experienced guy knows this. A CEO's job is 90% meetings, reporting and internal coordination.

And yet you cannot remove any of those things! Because they are crucial to your definition of "real output per day".
You just dont taste the dish made right? You also include the time it takes to decide on it, look up recipe, buy ingredients, prepare it etc.
The "real output" here which is the dish, sure takes less time to be served. But that doesn't mean we discredit the process it takes to reach to the serving part :)

Couldn’t agree more. The thing about white collar job is that top leadership is paid not for the “majdoori” they do. They are paid for the “impact” they make. One has to see the birds eye view to understand this. Those meeting with clients, reports, strategic discussions is what is required to keep business active and create the foundation of the project.

Yes it is. It is done by some shitty people because they want to show their work too.

Join a startup and you won't find most of these issues, except for 9hrs of real output

This is nothing new, it has always been like this ever since office work came into existence.
