I can't take it anymore. Should I quit my job?
I'm currently working in Bangalore and I can't take it anymore. My mental health has declined so much and I have been suffering from anxiety and depression for the last few years. I have been going for therapy but staying in bangalore has made my mental health worse. I don't like my job, I have no friends here and it keeps getting depressing. Moreover, my depression is causing me to keep binge eating which has affected my physical health too. I'm so overweight right now. I want to quit my job and go back to live with my parents. I discussed this with them and they are against it. Mainly because the job market is so bad rn and also I'm supporting them financially. My father owns a business and it's not going well for him. So they're relying on me partially. I can't stay here for another minute and I want to quit and run away but I am unable to. I'm looking to find opportunities in my hometown but no luck so far. What do you guys think? Should I prioritize my mental health and quit my job or find another job in my hometown first (who knows how long that will take in this economy) before quitting?

Imho once you get into this anxiety or depression it will kill you for long. If money can be adjusted somehow you prioritize health over the job. If you believe in yourself get some peace of mind.. you don't have anyone where you look live you will suffer badly and if you visit any good psychiatrist they will prescribe you sleeping medicine which will make you dull the next day. Don't get in that phase ..come out of it asap.

Yeah I have been prescribed sleeping meds by my psychiatrist and yes it makes me feel dull the next day. I feel like going insane

Here is how you can try a few things:
- Try waking up early and go for morning walk and get some vitamin D. Trust me walking in a park helps a lot in such situations
- See if you can meet someone every weekend..not the same person or family try new ones every week on a circular basis
- There are some free consultations where people hear your problems and can provide some free consultation in their own way. I had heard about it let me check and share if I get any. At times in such situations you just need an ear to listen to you.. that takes out a lot of stress. Express your self
- Try taking sabbatical or WFH or 1 month loss of pay and see if that helps
- I know the March cycle is coming up for many companies it's a peak review cycle but take a bold move and say it's ok if I get a low hike but I need a break in career and life
- Many companies post Covid have tied up with some institutes for mental health issues see if you can enroll
- Join yoga and try a meditation course
- Join weekend art of living or similar programme for 2-3 weekends
- Avoid junk food and eat fresh fruits and vegetables with less oil and salt
Try to bring some lifestyle changes it makes some positive effect

There are plenty of remote jobs. What's your role and years of experience? Let me see how I can help.
I have been there. Now I have moved to a complete remote role.

I am a business analyst at a financial services company. I graduated in 2023 and have been working since June 2023 as a FTE. So I have about 1.5 years of experience. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Where's your home town? I'll help you with a referral. Both of these things are important, hence the best case is you get a job in your hometown.

Chennai
Save some money, quit, take 1 month rest and think what to do next
Like others told, you MUST change something, job, locality or just whatever works. I also am bit depressed, but recently i was sick due to wrecking my health carelessly.
Health becomes your only problem after that. Even Health issues caused me to stress😶🌫️. Better to deal early than let it grow.

Start job search and try to even consider paycut over bad wlb

I took a career break recently. Do not quit right now, maybe take a month off. The market is brutal right now

I have been there but may be not to your extent. But here are some steps which might help.
Pick up some kind of physical activity. It can be walking, swimming, playing sports at Cult Fit etc. At least start walking while listening to podcast or music.
Second, pick up new areas to spike your curiosity. It can be a new hobby. Like photography, or world war history, or understanding how brands think of consumers, or dive deep into any sports as a fan. This will channelise your brain to look forward to something and not eat you up with depressing work related thoughts.
Then, look for a new job. See what is it that you are not enjoying in your current role and try to find some thing which doesn't have the same negative aspects.
Wish you good luck 🤞
