Trending @Infosys; I am the smartest person in every meeting in my team and it sucks...

Look, I know this is going to sound arrogant as hell, but I need to vent. I'm so fucking tired of being the only competent person in every goddamn meeting at my company. It's not even a humble brag anymore - it's genuinely ruining my career satisfaction.

Every. Single. Meeting. It's the same story. A bunch of overpaid, underqualified "managers" stumbling through presentations they clearly don't understand. Coworkers asking the most basic, idiotic questions that a five-minute Google search could answer. And don't even get me started on the "brainstorming sessions" that are just an excuse for everyone to spout off half-baked ideas with zero understanding of implementation.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting there, biting my tongue, because if I actually spoke up every time someone said something moronic, I'd be labeled as "not a team player" or "difficult to work with." So instead, I have to nod along to utter nonsense and watch in silent agony as terrible decisions get made.

You want to know the worst part? These idiots are the ones getting promoted. Apparently, in corporate America, the ability to confidently spew bullshit is more valuable than actual intelligence or competence.

So yeah, being the smartest person in the room fucking sucks. It's lonely, it's frustrating, and it's career suicide if you actually let it show. Anyone else feel like they're surrounded by morons at work, or am I just an asshole?

This isn't about stroking my ego. It's about the soul-crushing reality of working in an environment where mediocrity is rewarded and excellence is punished.

And to every manager: keep telling yourselves that everyone who recognizes incompetence is just an arrogant prick. I'm sure that attitude will serve you well in your careers.

A small piece of advise from small mouth big talk, switch asap to a better organisation, surroundings yourself with people like that will only bring your growth down and eventually those underqualified will be shown as overqualified by getting certification (not earned but bought) and good view before their senior mgmt. I had been into this situation, and I kinda feel bad now that from being proactive to becoming like I've lost that need to even try, and frustrated all the time in mind when you those overpaid people asking a basic question having certified badges/certification that proves they should know it better than a non certified employee. Anyways thanks for sharing , hope letting it out helped calm your mind a bit. Cause that's what I just did :)

Why not look for other opportunities who can utilize your expertise? Maybe a startup can utilize your vast knowledge and your wisdom? Or why not start your own if you are that confident in your own competency? Why still be a corporate slave and waste your time here? Use your value for those having values and for those who value you.

I know it is frustrating to keep answering same stupid questions, explaining same things over and over. Don't Keep Building up that thing inside you. Channel it into moving onto your next higher role, demand the management what is stopping them from promoting you. If you don't see a change there, definitely switch to a better organisation for a higher role.
