I am stuck in startup! Need Advice please! šš»
Hello, Iām a 2025 graduate. During college, I did two internships. The second one was an on-campus role at a very small startup (<10 people). Because the market was rough, I joined it. But the environment wasnāt greatāthere were no senior devs, and even though I built things from scratch, there was no proper feedback or code reviews. After the internship, they asked me to continue at 50% of the salary mentioned in the college email, so I left. After that, I fell ill, but I still got two offers: A full-time onsite role at a fintech company A remote SDE internship with potential for higher pay Considering my health, I chose the remote internship so I could manage things better and save money. Over the next 6 months, I did a lot of security analysis on my own, shipped major features, and from the 3rd month, I was even put on on-call. I worked really hard, cleared backlog tickets, and contributed a lot. But hereās the issue: after 6 months, they didnāt discuss my full-time conversion. I kept putting in extra effort for ~15ā20 days hoping it would happen. When I asked, they said I could āconsider myself an FTEā and only the compensation discussion was pending. So I continued working for another month expecting that discussionābut it never happened. Then they said theyād talk after my trip to India⦠but another 2ā3 months passed. Nothing. Now Iāve taken medical leave and stopped replying to their messages. In total, Iāve worked almost 5 extra months as an intern without any conversion. Iāve asked multiple times, but they just keep postponing. The bigger issue isāIām sick right now. They had promised insurance for FTEs, but Iām still paying all my medical expenses myself. I honestly donāt know what to do now. How do I get my pending/retro payment cleared? Should I quit? Or should I push for conversion first and then quit? They said in april during appraisal meeting will do your discussion but in mid april I stopped working as I am mentally and physically I am unwell.
Iām in debt because of medical expenses, and things feel really stuck. Iāve also been trying for remote foreign jobs, but nothing is working out so far š
