Hypocrisy
Such a society we live in wheee people are given preferences on their job and titles( company name and college name) etc ) and in the start up space this is too much. So founders assume someone from a different experience can’t do the job based on what ? If someone wasn’t given an opportunity for once how can a decision be made ? They only want fell top schools top companies. Look at the US and learn , seen people with diverse backgrounds been given an opportunity in fields of unknown knowledge and they have been able to achieve and do well. But these start ups here only care for branded names , but boast about diversity etc and anyone with passion please reach out to us if want to shape the future of India) bs) and when you reach out they don’t care to reply . You are just starting and you can atleast reply . Start ups okay with paying some analyst with good package but can’t pay some one else who ants to work and learn for a lower package .

but there needs to be a metric to shortlist good candidates from the masses. the folks who went to premium schools proved their worth by getting there. they've proved their intellect and hard work. that's definitely worth considering. if not quality education, then what other metric would you use to hire?

Ego issues hai idhar bro. Half of them are insecure af.

Idk I wrote to a lot of founders asking for an opportunity but don’t have the top company name top branded school or the analyst at Vc or Management Consulting and never heard back I could still do the job who knows and these founders are full of bs when it comes to job postings- passion future made in India stuff

Try writing to the founders in Singapore or Europe.

Hey man, always remember that all it takes is for one person to give you a shot.
It's tough but show proof of work, or some quality that shows that you'll kill it at the role and you'll find the right fit. Rejection sucks but keep at it.
The things I always try to remind myself is, 1) in hindsight, this will be a good story, 2) the will to want something and then go and get it is a quality that is tough to learn. And it's great to learn it earlier in your career.

Thanks I’m trying to aim for that one shot
Appreciate the advice

As per your example only, companies have two choices. Higher pay with experience vs lower pay without experience. This decision relies on the fact that how much time they have on hand for you to learn. They are willing to pay higher to reduce the risk of hiring decision going wrong.

Yeah but someone from a not branded school or company can still learn fast right ? Every company is different there is always new learning’s - I’m talking about a foot in the door ( just because I come from not top tier company doesn’t make me someone who can’t learn at a quick pace without even knowing me

Your frustration is real but there are just too many people that apply in India and companies will take the easy way to filter out candidates

I had the exact same thought process when I started out, early in my career. I knew from the beginning that I can work better than some folks from fancy colleges. Not all of them are good as we perceive them to be. But now after few years of experience, I realise this is all about credibility.
Put yourself in shoes of hiring manager. They need someone who can do great work, isn't afraid of long working hours, has the ability to persevere. He has 2 candidates in front of him. 1st is from fancy college, 2nd is from a local college. Who should he hire? Should he hire someone who has already worked hard for entrance exams, got selected in fanciest college by being extra competitive or should he take a chance on some unknown college. Basically, good colleges, company name kind of assures credibility of the skill. People who are from fancy colleges but have no skill, eventually lag behind in careers. That's the reality. Better make peace with it.

It’s like ICSE Vs State Board logic (both are capable of doing the work ) just because I mention ICSE in India that preference is given over state board same thing applies to companies as well

Humans have cognitive biases and use mental heuristics 🤣

Itna skill aur hard working the toh kar lete na crack top colleges or companies
