Humans only value things which they have worked for

so this should explain why when you tell you like someone, without pursuing them, they don't value it

but if there has been an effort and struggle in impressing the other person, that relationship is likely gonna last longer

and of course, there are exceptions as well

This is the logic of most pre 90s bollywood movies. The hero will harass the heroine untill she loves him back...

Real life doesn't work like this.

Even the heroine doesn't want the guy until he puts in the effort

Very good point but maybe this is not just for relationships. If I tell someone I like him, haaah!! As if he'll even consider me but If I show him my efforts that it's gonna make him believe that I am not kidding or just flirting. Well for work related purposes also we get appreciation only if we have done hard work, with sincerity. I think we have to work for things that we want to achieve. Nothing comes for free not even an interview, you have to ask someone for reference study for that. Only if you are a good fit for the company, they'll consider you and you'll get money. So you have worked for it. I may be wrong but just my POV.. 🙂

This applies to objects, somewhat less to relationships...
You have high effort and high cost associated that's why you see less divorce than breakups. But less divorce doesn't mean happy marriages.
