Arts( which, I think includes humanities) is a very common major to pick. Spl amongst people who are planning to attempt civil services or govt jobs. At least it was back in 17-18.

this makes perfect sense... the majority of the applicants for civil services come for the north states...

People from south too attempt govt exams a lot but take STEM courses .
