HR lowballing after getting selected.

I have been attending interviews for this company for 3 weeks with around 5 rounds of technical interviews. I did well in most technical interviews and okay in one. And HR said I am selected but they are trying to get an idea of my fitting in the role or some shit. The management is asking them to position me in one level lower than what was mentioned when they were hiring as i am not suitable for tech lead position(I would agree though and I am okay with being positioned less as i am more interested in IC roles). And was asked to reduce CTC as well.

So they are providing 5 lakhs less than what i asked and i also have another offer 3 lakhs more than this offer. This offer is remote but the other offer is wfo. I don't hate wfo but wfh would be good as it is flexible.

How do i convince the HR to get what i asked early? I am thinking of walking away if they low ball.

Walk away. Now.

I would if the other offer is wfh. I am still considering it only for the wfh now. As another commenter said, I'll ask them to match at least if not, then I'll walk away.

Are you sure in the long run these guys won't convert wfh to wfo? Many companies have done it including startups. I choose comp over anything because you never know what policy change they do next

Keep them hanging. Thank them for the generous offer and say you'll need some time to think about it. Ghost them for a few days. The HR has put equal time and effort in the interview process so they don't want to do it again either. 80% of the time they'll get the hint. For the other 20% either bite the bullet or keep interviewing. With the layoffs on the horizon March will bring good fat jobs.

"With the layoffs on the horizon, March will bring good fat jobs" - Seems far fetched

Well it is an employers market. If the recruiter is a good sourcer they’d have 2/3 other candidates lined up who wouldn’t mind the pay. Unless they have been desperately chasing you, move ahead with the other offer. Ask them to match the other offer if you want to give this place a shot.

Might as well give a shot to match the offer. If they don't accept, I will walk away. Thanks for the perspective.

You lay it down the way it is. You walk away but let them know why. Either they cave in or they will be more mindful for the next candidate.

Edit:- I rejected the offer and took the wfo offer. Thanks guys.

HRs low balling?

Have been interviewing for roles and the HRs are low balling like crazy even though they most definitely have the money, talking about non-startups listed companies as well. Makes me think if offer shopping or editing a current offer wit...
