How to transition from project mgmt to product management
Anything that can help in getting calls for product role after working for services firm in program & project mgmt area
Reword your resume. I am sure you would have handled some product tasks when needed in your work.
For example,
Program manager will write Xx company
- stakeholder management for xx billion project ensuring timely delivery in yy months ahead of schedule
Same task will be written by product manager as Xx company
- Managed stakeholders to ensure right prioritisation resulting in zz mn revenue and aa mn user growth in yy months
Mind you it’s same task done but written differently , but keywords make a difference. Also, you might need to target PM role in service companies or non-tech rather than product or tech companies. After couple of years as PM there you can try to move to product companies
Build some proof of work.
Not just a teardown.
Try to explore a problem statement and give your solution.
The problem statement could be any interview question.
It's a good approach to show how you think.
