How to Switch role from Tech to Product/PM roles within EY?
Hey Folks!
I am working as associate consultant, Technology at EY india.
Total expirence 2.5 to 3 years
Lately I released that I am more Inclined towards management roles. I want to get into product or project associate roles.
How can I make this switch?
Recently I applied for a IGP opportunity of enior Product consultant role (GDS), I got a call from HR, they said I have to inform counsellor about the same.
So I called & informed my consellor about my interest who's in fact manager for both my project. She took it negatively and said how can I apply without asking or discussing with him? We have to consider whether we have resources or not plus partner also need to approve it n all. She said this will be rejected.
I don't know what to do now. I want to get in Project or product management, if anyone can guide me how can I make this transition, it would be great help.

Discuss with your counsellor again, as to how you see this as your future path. Definitely consider getting in touch with your partner as well. EY is toxic as long as you don't push for yourself. Resources availability is such a silly reason, and you have no obligation to think about it. Keep a record of your chat for sure.

Thank you for responding.
HR said as discussed with consellor, my request can't move further.
Plus I am not past 18 months, hence not eligible for IGP, so no point fighting on that I guess.
My Manger who's my consellor too is very well in inline with partner & It's like two person one word.
I want to switch into Project management Or Product, I am just stuck at that, looking opportunities outwards now.

Are you sure about this?
Techincal roles have more scope in terms of Compansation (very high) if you make right switches
Consulting/Management roles have a limit - you will have to be really good SME to get a good package plus the opportunities are limited + MBAs from good colleges are preffered (Recommend yo do this if you want to get into Management roles)
Nowdays, management role people are trying to lean technical stuff to stay relevant
Do research thoroughly regarding the future of jobs - one thing that i have personally noticed is if you grow in a technical role and learn the business side - you automatically get into Management role

Be in the talent pool (on bench) anyone from any service line can call you for roles. Pick up whatever you want.
