How to shift to product management as a MBA grad, with 6 months in Project management and 4 years of total exp (3&1/2 in prod support & dev)

Hi All, I’m in a niche part of Project Management and it doesn’t include JIRA, etc. I completed MBA in marketing nearly 6 months ago, and need guidance to move to Product Management. Prior to this I was in Backend Production support and for a brief time in Dev. Is it a possible change? If yes, can I please know how to go about it.

Thank you in advance.

Transitioning from niche Project Management to Product Management is possible. Leverage your MBA and technical experience in support and development. Focus on transferable skills like stakeholder management and problem-solving. Target Associate PM roles, internal transitions, or certifications.

Your MBA + 4 years in prod support/dev gives you a unique edge for Product Management. To transition: Upskill in analytics (SQL, Power BI) – Critical for data-driven PM roles Learn Agile/JIRA (free Atlassian courses) – Non-negotiable for execution

Reframe past work as PM-ready: Prod support = user pain point expertise Project management = stakeholder alignment Target: B2B SaaS or fintech firms where your backend knowledge + MBA adds value.
