How to shift from Data engineer to data scientist. 12yr experience

I m from Chennai being a data engineer I couldn't move beyond 45LPA, I could see data scientist roles being paid 55L+ .

Were do I start to become a datascientist. Any course that can help become an expert in anyone tool or should I join bschools offering degrees in Datascience.
